In the last few years we saw a rising of open data services, between these also the city of Milano started to publicly share its data. While more and more data is becoming available, it still remains difficult to gather knowledge from it.

As first exercise of the year, we asked the students to tell a story about milano using open data. The exercise is a first challenge for Communication Design students: how to collect, analyze and visualize data? how to identify a story, and how to communicate it effectively? Students were free to choose the visual language, the only constraint was the visualization size (A3 paper).

Although it is the first time these students face with data visualization, we think their work is promising. You can have a look at the flickr set here. Enjoy!
